2 Peter 1:3-15: Peter is telling us here what is required to live a godly life. He writes that by the glory and goodness of Jesus Christ we have received all that is required for us to participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world that is caused by evil desires. As believers we have received what is necessary to no longer belong to the system that dominates and corrupts this world. We can live above it. Peter goes on to encourage us to make every effort to add into our lives one godly character after another and that by doing so we will insure a effective and productive life in our knowledge of Jesus Christ. It’s clear that for Peter following Jesus Christ was more than a cultural or intellectual exercise, it was a lifestyle that required constant effort. Not that this gave us a greater salvation or any salvation at all, it was just the simple cause and effect principle in the disciple’s life. If we have been cleansed from our past sins then the result will be that we make every effort to be effective and productive by add to our lives godly character upon character each in increasing measure.
