Paul hits us hard with a lesson in how we go about giving in 2 Corinthians 9. The principles of sowing and reaping, our attitude when we give, the process of giving, the result of my giving and the base-line for my giving are all part of the text.
What it comes down to is that I shouldn’t be giving for my own recognition, after all it is God that has supplied, I’m only the vessel that he has chosen. As His vessel I am called to be generous for I know that it is God who supplies so why not sow (give) abundantly? He will take care of my needs too. In return what happens is others are enabled to be thankful to God for what He has provided them. My generosity results in thankfulness to God, God is glorified! This is, after all, my purpose.
The base-line is the indescribable gift that God has given us in Jesus Christ. God is in fact our greatest example of giving. He has out done us all when He gave Himself upon the cross for our salvation. He was totally sacrificial in what He gave. Will I be sacrificial in my giving?
