Luke 7:23 “Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

Why would anyone stumble because of Jesus?<\/p>\n

Surely all the good things he did would render stumbling off limits. And yet the very man that God sent as the forerunner of the Messiah was having difficulties believing that Jesus was the Messiah.<\/p>\n

Perhaps John the Baptist had a slightly skewed view as well of who the was and what his agenda should be? I\u2019m not sure of that, but it seems it might have been a possibility.<\/p>\n

In any case John the Baptist was struggling, he was going through his very own crisis of faith. He wasn\u2019t seeing Jesus winnowing fork in his hand “to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn, but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.\u201d (3:17<\/a>). He was seeing the compassionate healer reach out to the weeping widow of Nain, the centurion of Capernaum and the multitudes of suffering children of Abraham. Jesus wasn\u2019t necessarily fitting into the mold that had been cast for him.<\/p>\n

So it is this \u201cdifferent Jesus\u201d, the one they didn\u2019t expect, that becomes the stumbling block.<\/p>\n
