Mark 3:2: It seems that despite Jesus demonstrating that He had the power to heal and despite His teaching on the Kingdom of God the Pharisees were intent on finding wrong in Jesus in order to discredit Him. A Pharisee even told Jesus that they knew that He was a teacher who had come from God (John 3:2). But Jesus was disturbing the well order life they had established for themselves that allowed them to control their society and gain personal advantage off of others in the name of God. Their attitude was that it was fine to heal, but not on the Sabbath. But Jesus saw through their thinking and new that they really had no concern for keeping the Sabbath rule as a time to rest and focus on their relationship with God. If that were the case then what better time for God to heal man with a crippled hand? Their attitude angered Jesus, they were hard hearted and stubborn and cared little about the well-being of people. This wasn’t what Jesus was like and it certainly wasn’t what the Father was like. Jesus’ message about the Kingdom was that it was an affair of the heart. Hearts need to be made right with God and this can only happen if we put God first and then our self-interest in submission to God. When this happens it is no longer an issue whether a crippled is healed on the Sabbath or if a few heads of grain are picked along the path to the meeting place.
